Daniel Naujoks

Daniel Naujoks is the faculty director of SIPA’s UN Partnership Initiative, which infuses academic knowledge into multilateral processes. From 2019-2025, he also served as director of SIPA’s International Organization & UN Studies Specialization. In addtion, he coordinates the Committee on Forced Migration at Columbia Global. He has previously taught at The New School’s Studley Graduate Programs in International Affairs. He has widely published on the policy-making processes and effects of dual citizenship, atypical citizenship regimes, and diaspora engagement, as well as on the integration of migration, refugees, and displacement into public policies and the links to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including his book ‘Migration, Citizenship, and Development’ (2013, Oxford University Press). His research equally focuses on UN reform, global governance, as well as interagency cooperation between UN agencies, on the development of the UN’s work at the country level.

Dr. Naujoks regularly advises governments and international organizations—including UNDP, IOM, World Bank, ILO, UN-DESA, OECD, UN Women, UNESCWA, and UNICEF—on issues of migration, diaspora engagement, human rights, displacement, and development.

He serves as chair of the section on migration, refugees and diaspora of the Association for the Study of Nationalities, past chair of ISA’s Ethnicity, Nationalism, and Migration Studies section, as well as editor of the journal Diaspora Studies and the blog Multilateralism in Action. He holds a PhD in political science and political economy from the University of Münster and a law degree from Humboldt University in Berlin.
