Faculty Research Support
The Office of Academic Affairs supports the research and scholarly activities of the School's faculty. Working closely with faculty members, research centers and institutes, University partners, and administrative offices, the Office assists with the administration of research appointments, research funding opportunities, sponsored projects, and research-related compliance requirements.
Research Appointments
The Office of Academic Affairs administers research appointments for officers of research and other individuals engaged in the School's research mission. Research appointments support faculty scholarship, sponsored projects, research centers and institutes, and other academic initiatives.
Internal Research Funding
Dean’s Faculty Research Grants
SIPA Faculty Grants are awarded annually to support faculty research and public policy analysis. Applications are solicited during the spring semester, and funding is awarded for the following academic year.

Research Compliance
Faculty research activities must comply with applicable University policies and regulatory requirements. The Office of Academic Affairs works with faculty members and University partners to support compliance with research-related requirements and approval processes.
Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) and Institutional Review Board (IRB)
Research involving human subjects must receive appropriate review and approval through Columbia University's Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) and Institutional Review Board (IRB) prior to the commencement of research activities.
Faculty members planning research involving human subjects should consult University guidance and allow sufficient time for review and approval.
