Robert Y. Shapiro Recognized for “Exceptionally Distinguished Achievement” in Public Opinion Research

Congratulations to Professor Robert Y. Shapiro, recently honored by the American Association for Public Opinion Research with its 2022 Award for Exceptionally Distinguished Achievement.

In addition to his position as a professor of international and public affairs at SIPA, Shapiro is the Wallace S. Sayre Professor of Government in Columbia’s political science department.

“For more than four decades,” AAPOR wrote, “Robert Y. Shapiro has profoundly shaped our understanding of public opinion and the theory and practice of contemporary democracy.” The group highlights Shapiro’s work as a scholar and author of award-winning books; as an advocate for the profession of public-opinion research; and as a teacher and mentor to students, especially those from underrepresented groups.
