Samir Elhawary has more than 15 years of experience working in humanitarian affairs, peace- building and human rights, with various institutions, including the UN, NGOs and think tanks. Since 2012, Samir has held senior roles in the UN, including as Deputy Humanitarian Coordinator in Venezuela, and with the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Syria, Yemen and Egypt. Previously, Samir was a researcher and policymaker with the Humanitarian Policy Group of the Overseas Development Institute, with a focus on the politics of humanitarian action, war to peace transitions, forced displacement and complex emergencies. Samir also has experience in promoting human rights in the extractive industry, mainly in Colombia.

He holds a postgraduate degree in Violence, Conflict and Development from the School of Oriental

and African Studies at the University of London.
