Personal Details

John Rhodes is an Adjunct Professor of International and Public Affairs at SIPA. From 2021 through August 2022, he was Special Assistant to the President for Climate Policy, focused deployment of clean power, transmission, and building and vehicle electrification solutions



From June 2017 to February 2021, he was Chair of the Public Service Commission and CEO of the Department of Public Service. While there, he worked to develop and implement affordable, ambitious, equitable, and practical clean energy polices, to ensure reliability, and to protect customers.



From 2013 until June 20, he was President and CEO of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). While there, he worked to develop innovative clean energy policies and initiatives to combat climate change, and develop jobs, investments, and innovation in New York.



He previously served as director for the Center for Market Innovation at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), working to channel private capital toward sustainable investments in energy efficiency, renewable energy, green infrastructure, and sustainable food and agriculture.



Prior to NRDC, he spent three years as acting chief operating officer at Good Energies. He was a partner at Booz Allen Hamilton, and also served as a trader and general manager in Germany and India at Metallgesellschaft, a German mining, metals, and engineering firm.

He has served with several not-for-profit organizations, including the American Federation for Aging Research, Brookings Metro, the Citizens Budget Commission of New York, Cornerstone Literacy.

He lives in New York City with his wife, and is thrilled to watch their three children make their ways into the world.
