China Central Television | CCTV

The Picker Center organized four annual seminars for China Central Television (CCTV) senior officials as part of its Executive Training Program on Broadcast Media Management. The goal of the program was to provide advanced management training to enable CCTV to meet the challenges of the rapidly developing global media industry. Participants examined latest developments in U.S. media as well as the management experiences and ideas of leading media companies. 
 
The program featured a combination of lectures covering trends in broadcast media; media mergers and acquisitions; production, finance, and marketing of TV production; and the development and impact of new media, with corresponding site visits to leading broadcast and digital media corporations in New York City and Washington, DC, including Time Warner, HBO, Fortune Magazine, and the Brookings Institution.

 

The media industry is changing at an unprecedented rate due to the growing importance of digital technologies, social media, and real-time, data-driven content, which have accelerated the disruption of the traditional media landscape. The urgent need for policy solutions to address mis/disinformation has also never been greater. The Picker Center has developed a number of executive programs to prepare media companies with the analytical tools and innovative management skills in broadcast and digital media, journalism, production, external relations, and communications to effectively address the challenges of the digital revolution and adapt to these shifting trends in media. 

Instructors include award-winning journalists, policy experts, and corporate leaders with experience at top media companies, including faculty affiliated with the Technology, Media, and Communications specialization. Courses combine lectures, case study analysis, interactive workshops, executive coaching, industry panels, and site visits to leading broadcast and digital media corporations in the New York City area, including Reuters, the New York Times, the National Broadcasting Company (NBC), Google, the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), Forbes, Fortune, Bloomberg, and New York Channel 1.

South Africa Broadcast Corporation, South Africa

The South Africa Broadcast Corporation sent several top executives to the Picker Center for an executive training program focused on the changing world of news gathering and new initiatives in the age of the digital takeover. The Public Broadcasting Certificate Program covered the changing face of broadcasting; crisis communications; and innovative technologies, with visits to leading broadcast and digital media companies including NBC News, Google, and PBS.

Media Management, Guangdong Southern Media

The Picker Center organized a three-week program on Media Management Training for Guangdong Southern Media. The program covered the latest developments and challenges of the new media landscape; media industry strategy and distribution challenges and trends; monetization of digital assets; the social media landscape; and market segmentation in media management, as well as site visits to Bloomberg, the New York Times, NBC News, and WNYC Radio.

Jiangsu Broadcasting Media Corporation

The Picker Center organized a 16-day Media Management Training Program for the Jiangsu Broadcasting Media Corporation. The program covered trends in television production; management, marketing, and distribution for TV networks; marketing and management strategies in the media; production management; branding across platforms; media mergers and acquisitions; and site visits to Bloomberg, ESPN, and New York Channel 1.

All-China Journalists Association (ACJA)

The Picker Center organized a series of programs on media and broadcasting for the All-China Journalists Association (ACJA). Sessions covered major issues in broadcasting; new media and their development, trends, and influence; management innovation in the U.S. media; streaming media and other new media. The program included site visits to several media organizations including Reuters, the New York Times, NBC Universal, Forbes, Fortune, and Bloomberg.

Radio, Film and Television Bureau of Henan Province

The Picker Center organized an Executive Training Program in Broadcast Media Management for a 20-member delegation from the Radio, Film, and Television Bureau of Henan Province in China, which focused on the latest development in U.S. media. Topics included marketing and distribution strategies in U.S. media; the development and impact of new media in the U.S.; competition and developing trends in American network TV news; and audience measurement.

Henan Province Media Organizations

The Picker Center organized a program on media and broadcasting for Henan Province Media Organizations. Sessions were led by editors, journalists, and producers from a number of media, publishing, and broadcasting companies in the U.S., including Bloomberg and WNET—Channel 13. Topics included the branding of Chinese media and entertainment firms; marketing and distribution strategies; and comprehensive corporations and the challenges of integrating TV and online media.
