Defining a New Generation of International Human and Labor Rights Standards for Business

Semester

Spring 2015

This workshop had two clients. The primary client was Fontheim International, LLC., a consulting firm based in Washington, D.C. that specializes in corporate social responsibility among other service lines. The advisory client was Workers United, the largest manufacturing union in North America. The project's objectives were to produce a resource guide to inform businesses on labor rights and international norms and standards, and a case studies document that looked at four cases as examples of innovation and compliance in this space. As part of the project, the team also traveled to the Dominican Republic to get an empirical understanding of the key stakeholder perspectives on the ground and the implementation of key human and labor rights standards in the manufacturing sector.
