Cashew Nuts in Mozambique: Recommendations for Developing a Viable Industry
Client
Semester
In recent years, cashews have increasingly attracted the attention of both the public and private sector within Mozambique. Starting in 2002, transformations within the cashew processing industry have been underway in Mozambique – a group of entrepreneurs are implementing a new processing strategy that they believe will enable Mozambique to be competitive on the world market. TechnoServe, a non-profit business development organization, has been consulting these entrepreneurs in building a sustainable and competitive industry that will provide income-earning opportunities for thousands of poor, rural workers. The objective of the workshop was to strengthen the existing cashew sector by identifying the major impediments and proposing recommendations to improve the quality and quantity of raw and processed cashew nuts.
