Assessing Pharmaceutical Regulatory Changes in Emerging Countries (namely BRIC countries) and the Implications on Various Stakeholders, in Particular Large Pharmaceutical Groups
The pharmaceutical landscape is rapidly changing on a global scale. Emerging economies, specifically the BRIC countries, with a large domestic population base, increasing income levels and roll-out of government healthcare program for poorer patients represent important new markets for Pharmaceutical companies; however, the regulatory structure and drivers of regulatory change differ dramatically from country to country. The Capstone project focused on drivers of regulatory change and identified key regulatory differences between Brazil, Russia, and China.
To identify opportunities and threats, the Capstone team examined existing regulations and potential change in the regulatory environment. Specifically, 1)Patent Protection laws and 2)Price Controls 3)Ease of Doing Business and 4)Marketing Regulations. Using this criteria, the team developed a tool-set with the four variables listed above to provide insight for leading pharmaceutical multnationals to optimize reputation and business ventures in the aforementioned markets.
