Spring 2013

The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) initiated the ASEAN General Election Network for Disability Access (AGENDA) to bring together disabled persons’ organizations (DPOs) and civil society organizations (CSOs) across Southeast Asia with the goal of improving access to political and electoral opportunities for individuals with disabilities in the region. AGENDA assists partner organizations to develop new monitoring tools, build regional partnerships, raise public awareness of electoral access for persons with disabilities, and expand their leadership capabilities. Thus far, AGENDA partners’ work has focused heavily on data collection, analysis, and advocacy around barriers to election access. The SIPA team assisted AGENDA partner organizations to research and analyze data on election access for persons with disabilities; assessed the capacity of organizations to continue data collection, analysis, and advocacy; and provided recommendations to strengthen organizational capacity and the AGENDA network as a whole.
