NASPAA Honors Todd Miner MPA-ESP ’11

Posted Nov 10 2014

SIPA alumnus Todd Miner MPA-ESP ’11 has been honored with a NASPAA Spotlight Award for “outstanding contributions toward solving public-sector problems.” The award reflects Miner’s work as a director at Friends of Rockaway, in which he helped lead recovery efforts in one of the New York City neighborhoods hit hardest by Superstorm Sandy in 2012.

NASPAA—the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration—announced the inaugural 10 award recipients on Nov. 5 at its annual conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Earlier this year, the organization had invited its nearly 300 member schools, including SIPA, to to nominate faculty or alumni working in the public, nonprofit, and private sectors.

Miner was not the only member of the SIPA community honored. The organization also recognized faculty member Ester Fuchs, a professor of public affairs and political science, and her efforts since 2012 to develop and promote the Who’s On the Ballot voter-information website.

“The 10 nominees have made great contributions to their communities and demonstrate the ideals of public service,” said George Dougherty, Jr., a faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh’s Graduate School of Public and International Affairs who chaired the awards subcommittee. “It is a pleasure for us to highlight their contributions.”
