Event: Climate change: consequences and mitigation strategies for policy-makers

"A number of MPA - Environmental Science Policy (ESP) students participated in a discussion session with the MPA-EPM class on the topic of climate change. The MPA-ESP students presented on a wide range of topics in the field of climate change including mitigation strategies, impacts, and the prominent causes. PEPM students left the session with a greater appreciation of the severity of the problem and the options available to emerging market policymakers to mitigate and adapt to the causes and consequences of climate change."
The Climate change discussion was a high-level overview of the causes and consequences of climate change as well as a discussion of policy options available for mitigation. Specific topics that were covered included: ecological conservation and the importance of ecosystem services to climate change mitigation and adaptation; the carbon budget, stranded assets & potential shocks to global economic system from improper management of the carbon bubble; water and food security and how they are affected by climate change; and concerning policy trends in state-level approaches to climate change. Presentations were be followed by Q&A.

Event: Game Changers: How to Get Motivated Like the World's Greatest Innovators and Creators

"The workshop Game Changers was very valuable to identify the type of creative personality of each one and how it can be used to promote the creation of ideas and maintain energy in the projects. In addition, there were shared experiences on what advantages and limitations have different types of creativity."
The workshop led by professor, author and TED Talk speaker Meta Wagner. Event: 2018 Global Public Policy Network (GPPN) Annual Conference

Fátima Uriarte Cáceres and Jennifer Gennaro platform for the 2018 GPPN Conference focused on cyber security. SICI SICI (Solución Innovadora para Ciudades Inteligentes/Innovative Solution for Smart Cities) is a chatbot that will empower smart city residents with information about cybersecurity threats. By using existing machine learning techniques and platforms, SICI’s main functionality is to inform users of: (i) security threats to their accounts; (ii) major cybersecurity attacks that may impact them, and (iii) provide answers to questions regarding cybersecurity. SICI is an innovative step forward towards the development of effective responses to assist in preventing, identifying, and responding to cyber threats.
SIPA hosted the Global Public Policy Network (GPPN) Annual Conference, bringing together students and faculty from top international public policy schools to create a platform for institutional partnership, collaboration and a student project competition. MPA-EPM Student Fátima Uriarte Cáceres is from the Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and Pension Funds of Peru. She is also a recipient of the 2017-2018 a Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholar program through MPA in Economic Policy Management’s partnership with the World Bank.
The mid-career MPA in Economic Policy Management program (MPA-EPM) is a 12-month MPA program at SIPA and is geared towards professionals with significant working experience within economic policymaking, financial, consulting, political science, engineering and energy backgrounds.
