Jackson, Pinho Will Discuss "The Next Asia" as Energy Series Continues

Posted Sep 18 2012

SIPA’s Leaders in Global Energy lecture series for fall 2012 will continue on October 4 at 6 p.m. when Stephen Roach of Yale University and SIPA's Manuel Pinho discuss “ The Next Asia: Opportunities and Challenges for a New Globalization.” The event will take place in the International Affairs Building's Kellogg Center.

Manuel Pinho, a visiting professor at SIPA, has served as Portugal's minister of the economy and innovation.

The Leaders in Global Energy program is a key component of SIPA’s work to identify solutions to the challenges of creating sustainable energy while protecting the environment. Begun in September 2010, it features formal lectures and informal talks by distinguished thought leaders in the energy sector — from governments, corporations, and NGOs around the world.

Past lecturers include Edison Lobão, Brazil’s minister of mines and energy; Eduardo Souto de Moura, 2011 Pritzker Architecture Prize laureate; Fatih Birol, chief economist at the International Energy Agency; Andris Piebalgs, European commissioner for development; and Carlos Tavares, then Nissan Motors’ executive vice president for operations in the Americas.

Overseeing the program is SIPA visiting professor Manuel Pinho, former Portuguese minister of the economy and innovation, director of the European Investment Bank, and IMF economist. SIPA thanks Energias de Portugal (EDP) for its generous support of this program.

The Kellogg Center is located on the 15th floor of the International Affairs Building at 420 West 118th Street, near Amsterdam Ave.
