The Open Society Foundations award grants, scholarships, and fellowships throughout the year to organizations and individuals who share Open Society values. We look for grantees who have a vision and whose efforts will lead to lasting social change. The vast majority of our grants are awarded to organizations that we approach directly, but we do list some open opportunities below. Other funding opportunities are available through Open Society's network of national and regional foundations.

The Sons of Italy Foundation offers the National Leadership Grant Scholarships to outstanding men and women of Italian descent. These are merit based awards which range from $4,000 to $25,000 for one year. Check website for scholarship requirements. General Eligibility (additional requirements might apply to specific scholarships): U.S. citizens of Italian descent (at least one Italian or Italian-American grandparent) Enrolled in a four year undergraduate program or a graduate program at an accredited academic institution for the Fall 2019 term.

The Organization of American States (OAS) Academic Scholarships are awarded to persons to undertake undergraduate or graduate studies and/or graduate research that lead to a degree at a university or higher learning institution in an OAS Member State , with the exception of his/her own sponsoring country. Studies must be full-time and may be pursued by on-site or by distance education or a combination of both. Graduate and undergraduate students, studying at American colleges and universities or Americans studying abroad, who aspire to become foreign correspondents, are invited to apply for one of 16 scholarships to be awarded by the Overseas Press Club Foundation.

Wellesley alumnae continuing their study of economics are eligible to apply for the Peggy Howard Fellowship in Economics. The award is administered by the economics faculty and the number of recipients and awarded amounts vary.

Phi Kappa Phi awards nearly $1 million each year to students, Phi Kappa Phi members, chapters and institutions. Graduate students may be eligible for four of the Society’s award programs: Dissertation Fellowships support members in the dissertation writing stage of doctoral study. Fellowships are available for members entering the first year of graduate or professional study. Literacy Grants are available for members and chapters championing literacy initiatives. Love of Learning Awards help fund post-baccalaureate professional development for members.

The Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.) proudly sponsors no less than six international philanthropies, or projects, designed to assist women with their educational goals. More than 90,000 women have benefited from our organization's educational grants, loans and awards. To date, P.E.O. has awarded Educational Loan Fund dollars totaling more than $143.6 million, International Peace Scholarships are more than $29 million, Program for Continuing Education grants are more than $43 million, Scholar Awards are more than $16 million and P.E.O. Pi Gamma Mu's scholarships are intended for the first or second year of graduate work in the areas of sociology, anthropology, political science, history, economics, international relations, public administration, criminal justice, law, social work, psychology, and human/cultural geography. Applicants must be members of the Pi Gamma Mu Honor Society.

The Pickering Program plans to award 30 fellowships of up to $37,500 annually for a two-year period for tuition, room, board, books, and mandatory fees for completion of two-year master’s degrees. This includes up to $21,500 per year for tuition and mandatory fees and an academic year stipend of $16,000. This is a highly selective program.
