Engagement of Troop Contributing Countries (TCCs) to United Nations Peacekeeping Operations in the context of the current "New Horizon" Initiative

The Policy, Evaluation and Training Division (DPET) of DPKO is leading the development of a coherent strategy for engagement with Member States to widen the pool of contributors to UN peacekeeping. Such a strategy requires a thorough analysis of the ability and interest of Member States to participate in UN peacekeeping, an assessment of the incentives and disincentives to participation and finally the development of a long-term tailored strategy for engagement with individual States to yield the best results.

DPET is proposing that the UN Studies Program at SIPA, Columbia University, undertake a 3-month research project to assist DPET in developing a comprehensive country profile of a target list of 15 countries that DPKO-DFS have defined as the critical or catalytic ones to engage with in the next 2-5 years. The 15 countries will be determined by DPET, with the input of the Director of the UN Studies Program at SIPA.
