Personal Details

Shawna Wakefield is an international facilitator, consultant and women’s rights advocate who has worked in the field of gender, economic and racial justice for over 20 years. She is an Associate with Gender at Work, and works with philanthropic organizations, international organizations, UN agencies, social justice and movement building organizations supporting development of capacities for feminist leadership and organizational cultures of care, justice, equity and inclusion.

She was Oxfam International’s Senior Gender Justice Lead between 2005-2015, heading organizational strategy on women’s rights, advising and co-creating innovative learning, advocacy and campaigns, humanitarian response and organizational culture and accountability initiatives. She was Regional Gender Advisor in East Asia for Oxfam, researcher with the Afghanistan Research and Evaluation Unit in Kabul and Program Specialist with UN Development Fund for Women on economic security and strategic planning. She graduated from the Columbia School for International and Public Affairs in 2000 with a MPA, specializing in gender policy and human rights.
