Personal Details

Lief Doerring is a senior international development expert, leader, and portfolio manager with more than 20 years of experience working in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and the Pacific. He brings proven expertise in the design, implementation, and management of development donor-funded projects, including in micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) development; market systems and value chain development; agriculture; livelihoods; competitiveness; access to finance; and business development services. At DAI, he is in the private sector development practice on the economic growth team in the Technical Services unit. He leads efforts to maintain and build DAI’s position as a leading provider of technical assistance in the economic growth sector, with particular emphasis on using a local systems approach that is market-led, pro-poor, technically appropriate, and cost-effective. In addition, he teaches a class on MSME development as an adjunct professor at the School for International Public Affairs (SIPA) at Columbia University in New York.
