Julie George is Associate Visiting Professor at SIPA. She holds a PhD in Government from the University of Texas at Austin. She also has faculty appointments as Associate Professor at Queens College and The Graduate Center, CUNY. She has also taught at Ilia State University, Tbilisi Georgia.

Professor George specializes in comparative and international politics, with a focus on ethnicity and identity, conflict, state building, She is the author of a book, The Politics of Ethnic Separatism in Russia and Georgia, as well as several articles in peer-reviewed journals, such as Electoral Studies, Post-Soviet Affairs, Europe-Asia Studies, and Central Asian Studies. She has also worked with Freedom House for its annual Freedom of the World assessments and publication.
