Personal Details

Joshua Walker is President and CEO of Japan Society, a perpetual bridge-builder, citizen diplomat, trained academic and global enthusiast passionate about international affairs with a specialization in the Middle East and East Asia. He is a Senior Fellow with the Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress advising on international projects and geotechnology. Previously Dr. Walker was the Global Head of Strategic Initiatives and Japan in the Office of the President of Eurasia Group the world’s leading political risk consultancy, where he created the largest geopolitical convening, the “GZERO Summit,” in Tokyo. Dr. Walker has over two decades of international business diplomacy,  serving as the CEO and President of the USA Pavilion of the 2017 World Expo in Astana, Kazakhstan, Founding Dean of the APCO Institute and Senior Vice President of Global Programs at APCO Worldwide, a global strategic communications firm. He is a Fulbright Scholar, Presidential Leadership Scholar, and Rockfeller Fellow of the Trilateral Commission along with having been a Transatlantic Fellow at the German Marshall Fund of the United States focused on Japan for the Asia program and taught Leadership and the American Presidency for the Reagan Presidential Foundation at the George Mason University and Political Risk at the George Washington University. In addition to being a thought leader who often speaks to and writes on international affairs for a variety of media and news outlets, Dr. Walker is well connected with other international appointments, board memberships, and fellowships he is involved in. Before joining the private sector, he worked as a Senior Advisor for the Secretary’s Office of the Chief Economist and prior to this served in the Secretary’s Global Partnership Initiatives. He has also previously worked on the Turkey Desk of the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs at the State Department, the U.S. Embassy Ankara, and for the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the U.S. Department of Defense. Dr. Walker holds a Princeton doctorate, Yale master’s, and a University of Richmond bachelor's and speaks both Japanese and Turkish where he has lived for much of his life.
