Gizem Acikgoz

Focus areas: political economy of development, international conflict, democratization, revolutions, foreign aid, quantitative data analysis, experimental methods

Gizem Acikgoz an Adjunct Assistant Professor at SIPA, teaching INAF U6178: Political Development in Fall 2021. Her research interest lies at the intersection of International Relations and Comparative Politics, applying quantitative and experimental methods to controversies in political and economic development. She is particularly interested in applications of these methods to intergroup relations, conflict, political violence, institutional change and poverty alleviation. She has received Hoover Institution Research Grant from Stanford University (2008) and MacCracken Fellowship (2004-2008) from New York University.

Gizem Acikgoz also teaches graduate courses on Revolutions, Nation Building, Aid and Development, and Causal Analysis at New York University. She holds her undergraduate degree in Economics and Government from Cornell University and her graduate degree in Politics from New York University. She is the recipient of Outstanding Teaching Award at New York University in 2014.
