Personal Details

Eugene Tan (he/him) is a PhD Candidate in the Sustainable Development Program at Columbia SIPA. He focuses on development, energy, and environmental economics, and often uses spatial and network data in his projects.

His current research focuses on the expansion of electricity grids in Sub-Saharan Africa, and the regulation of embedded emissions through global supply chains. Prior to starting his PhD at Columbia, he completed an MESc at Yale School of the Environment, was a data scientist at the World Bank and at a startup, and was a Junior Fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Outside of academics, he enjoys Olympic weightlifting and the diversity of food available in NYC.
