Sustainable Development

Personal Details

Camellia Jingdi (CJ) Ye (she/her) is a first-year Ph.D. student in Sustainable Development. She is interested in the entangled histories of technology and environment: how natural conditions and resource endowments have historically conditioned economic growth and technological innovation, and in turn, how tools and systems transform landscapes, redirect resource use, and alter our relationship with the environment.

CJ grew up on Long Island, NY before moving to the Bay Area where she studied Economics and English Literature at Stanford University. She spent two years in Chicago, earning an MA from the UChicago Harris School of Public Policy (MACRM) and researching crop insurance and groundwater as a predoctoral fellow at the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago (EPIC). She enjoys biking, the cello, and parks.
