Ananya Tomar is a Master of International Affairs candidate at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), specializing in International Security and Diplomacy. She earned her B.A. (Honours) in Political Science from Lady Shri Ram College for Women, University of Delhi, with a focus on South Asian geopolitics and security.
At SIPA, Ananya pursues coursework in Intelligence Analysis, Counterterrorism, and Risk Assessment, deepening her expertise in the full spectrum of international security challenges. She serves as Vice President of SIPA's Student Association (SIPASA), representing over 1,500 students, and as a Teaching Assistant for the course Data and Conflict. An American citizen raised in New Delhi, Ananya brings a unique cross-cultural perspective to her work in international security. Prior to SIPA, she worked full-time at Plan International (India Chapter) in program implementation, followed by roles at the Centre for UN Peacekeeping (CUNPK) and security-focused think tanks, where she built hands-on experience in peacekeeping effectiveness, international security, and Indo-Pacific security.
In her free time, Ananya enjoys exploring New York City, trying new cafes and restaurants with friends, and playing football. She is passionate about helping prospective students navigate their path to SIPA and is always happy to chat about her experiences and the opportunities the program has opened up for her.
