SIPA Graduation

Reflecting on my time during my final year at Columbia SIPA, I am filled with a profound sense of gratitude and clarity. This journey has been transformative, not only academically but also personally, as it helped me uncover my deepest desire to understand the complexities of the world. Immersed in a diverse and intellectually stimulating environment, I was constantly challenged to think critically, engage with global issues, and collaborate with peers from varied backgrounds. The rigorous coursework, insightful discussions, and exposure to real-world policy challenges deepened my curiosity and sharpened my analytical skills. Beyond the classroom, the vibrant energy of New York City and the connections I forged with professors and classmates enriched my perspective, fostering a sense of global citizenship. Columbia SIPA, with its prestigious reputation, provided me with invaluable opportunities to grow and connect with an incredible network of alumni and professionals.

However, one of the most important lessons I learned was that while the university opens doors, it is ultimately up to me to craft my own path. The job market in the U.S., especially in fields like public policy and international affairs, is tumultuous and highly competitive. Graduating from a renowned institution like Columbia provides the foundation to find a job. The reality is that success requires going above and beyond—networking relentlessly, gaining practical experience, and continuously refining my skills to stand out. I realized early on that I could not rely solely on the prestige of my degree. Instead, I had to take ownership of my career, embrace resilience, and adapt to the ever-changing demands of the job market.

Throughout my time at SIPA and beyond, I found myself continuously defining and redefining what it means to graduate from such a prestigious institution. It is not just about the name on the diploma or the network it provides; it is about the responsibility that comes with it. Graduating from SIPA means carrying forward the values of public service, global awareness, and intellectual rigor that the institution instills in its students. It means understanding that the privilege of this education comes with an obligation to contribute meaningfully to society, to tackle pressing global challenges, and to uplift others along the way. It also means recognizing that the journey does not end at graduation—it is a lifelong process of learning, growing, and adapting. The SIPA experience taught me to think critically about my role in the world and to approach problems with both humility and ambition. It pushed me to reflect on my strengths, weaknesses, and aspirations, and to constantly ask myself how I can use this education to make a tangible impact.

Looking back, I see that SIPA was more than just an academic institution—it was a catalyst that ignited my passion for learning and equipped me with the tools to contribute meaningfully to the world. This experience has shaped not only my career aspirations but also my understanding of the interconnectedness of our global community, leaving me with a lifelong commitment to curiosity, empathy, and impact. It also instilled in me a pragmatic understanding that while prestigious universities provide opportunities, it is up to each individual to seize them, navigate challenges, and carve out their unique path in an unpredictable world. Graduating from SIPA is not an endpoint; it is the beginning of a journey to continuously define and redefine what it means to be a global citizen, a leader, and a changemaker in a world that demands both resilience and hope.
