For my final blog post, I’ve decided to throw together a list of Columbia resources, tips, and hacks I used over the course of time at SIPA that don’t fit into a single category. I recommend bookmarking these resources, as you may find yourself searching for them over the course of your academic career.
- Booking a meeting room in Lehman
- These are useful if you ever need a quiet space to take an interview, or a room for your group to meet to discuss a project you’re working on.
- The website to book meeting rooms can be found here.
- Practice Rooms
- For the music lovers out there, Schapiro Hall offers access to graduate students to practice rooms.
- Information about where these rooms are located can be found here.
- Writing Center
- Columbia's Writing Center is world famous, and you have free access as a student to meet with someone who can help you improve your final products. Schedule an appointment here.
- University Libraries access to free resources for students:
- Students are offered free subscriptions to The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and many other resources. All access subscriptions can be found here.
- Access thousands of audio books through the Palace Project app
- Columbia University Club on New York
- Many exciting events are hosted through the university club. You can meet alumni and stay in touch with what's happening on campus after you graduate with a membership.
- Details can be found here.
- Printing on campus
- SIPA students have an allotted credit amount each semester that enables us to print on campus. In the International Affairs building, you can print using your student ID on the 5th or 6th floor, or in the library.
- Review the printing website and learn how to get started here.
- Columbia Health
- If you’ve chosen to enroll in Columbia’s health insurance plan, this website can be your one stop shop for getting the care you need. You can schedule a visit with a provider on campus, get referrals, or find out when drop-in visits are available.
- SIPAConnect Saved Search Feature
- If you log into SIPAConnect, navigate to “Job Listings” in the left-hand panel, then find the “Notify me” prompt, you can have new job openings that are listed on the site sent directly to your email inbox. You can tailor this by title, location, or industry. I’ve done this since my first month at SIPA, and it’s helped me stay on top of job applications through the last two years.
- Columbia University Events Calendar
- This is a great resource to find out about other things happening around campus, from speaker events, to shows, to fitness classes.
