Chengzhi Yin’s research focuses on international security, East Asian security, and Chinese
foreign policy. He received his PhD in Political Science from Boston College, and has taught
international politics courses at Boston College and Wellesley College.

Yin’s dissertation investigates China’s alliance balancing strategies. Drawing on archival
materials from China, the United States, and Russia, the dissertation explores how China chooses
particular strategies to divide adversarial alliances and maintain its own alignments. Yin’s
current work studies why states terminate their alliances and U.S. wedge strategies toward China
and India.
