Sandra Baquié is a 6th year PhD student in the Sustainable Development PhD program. Her main research interests lie in the fields of Health, Development, and Environmental Economics. Sandra's ongoing projects range from the study of antibiotic resistance to the analysis of the role of gender empowerment in resilience to natural disasters in Sub-Saharan Africa. She is also working on an interdisciplinary project with Prof. DeFries relating migration to forest degradation in Central India.

Prior to starting her PhD, Sandra gained firsthand experience of industrial engineering and international trade in developing countries by working as an Engineer in China and Cambodia. She has subsequently led analytical work supporting public policy advice in South East Asia, the Middle East, and Africa (United Nations ESCAP, Lebanese Center for Policy Studies, and World Bank). She holds an MSc. Engineering from the Ecole Centrale Paris and an MPhil. Economic Research summa cum laude from the University of Cambridge.
