Hyae Ryung (Helen) Kim is a PhD candidate in Sustainable Development. Her fields of interest are environmental and financial economics with a focus on climate change and sustainable development. Helen takes an interdisciplinary approach to answering policy-relevant questions related to complex climate problems and developing effective and equitable solutions by understanding the interaction between natural and social systems. Her current research studies include climate finance and risks to understand how climate change influences finance and investment, and how economic and financial systems can support pathways toward achieving global sustainable development.
Prior to joining the Columbia PhD program Helen worked at PwC and the African Development Bank. She was a PhD candidate and a Research Fellow in Innovation Economics at Berlin University of Technology. She holds a BS in Chemical and Biological Engineering and MS in Technology Management, Economics, and Policy from Seoul National University.
