Personal Details

Hyae Ryung (Helen) Kim is a PhD candidate in Sustainable Development. Her fields of interest are environmental and financial economics with a focus on climate change and sustainable development. Helen takes an interdisciplinary approach to address policy-relevant questions concerning complex climate challenges and to develop effective and equitable solutions by comprehending the interaction between natural and social systems. Her current research investigates climate risks and finance, aiming to discern how climate change affects finance and investment, and how economic and financial systems can support pathways toward achieving global sustainable development.

Prior to joining the Columbia PhD program, Helen worked at PwC and the African Development Bank. She was a Research Fellow in Innovation Economics at Berlin University of Technology. She holds a BS in Chemical and Biological Engineering and an MS in Technology Management, Economics, and Policy from Seoul National University.
