Personal Details

Hyae Ryung (Helen) Kim is a PhD student in Sustainable Development. Her research interests lie in the fields of environmental economics, energy policy, and sustainable finance with a focus on climate change. She uses a range of interdisciplinary approaches in her research to study questions of climate impact, adaptation, and resilience. Her current research studies include examining the role of climate finance in discerning how to estimate climate risk and cost of the transition to a low-carbon economy.

Helen holds a BS in Chemical and Biological Engineering and MS in Technology Management, Economics and Policy from Seoul National University. Before joining the PhD program at Columbia, she worked with PwC and the African Development Bank. She was a PhD candidate and research fellow in Innovation Economics at Berlin University of Technology in Germany.
