PhD Student

Personal Details

Claire is a sixth-year student in the Sustainable Development PhD program. She holds a master’s degree in Environmental Economics from Université Paris Saclay/AgroParisTech (Paris, France), and studied Environmental Science and Agronomy prior to coming to Columbia.

Claire’s research lies in the field of environmental economics, and she focuses on the animal farming industry for her doctoral work. In particular, she investigates the feedbacks at work within coupled human-ecological systems when animal production becomes more or less industrialized, in the US and abroad (Israel, India).

Her current projects include combining remote sensing data and machine learning methods to analyze the health consequences of living in proximity to confined animal feeding operations (CAFOs), and the relationship between the degree of industrialization of animal production systems and their resilience to shocks (temperature variations, pathogens…).
