Ernst-Ulrich Petersmann was born on 26 August 1945 at Hamburg, Germany. He is married with eight children.

He has written 26 books; more than 200 articles and book contributions and over 100 book reviews. He is co-editor of the Journal of International Economic Law and of the journal Aussenwirtschaft (Swiss Review of International Economic Relations) and a member of the editorial board of the journal World Competition.
