Mari Pangestu obtained her Bachelor and Master of Economics
from the Australian National University and her Ph.D in economics from
University of California, Davis.
Prior to assuming the responsibility as the Minister of Trade in October
2004, Dr. Pangestu was a member of the Governing Board of the Centre
for Strategic and International Studies, Jakarta.
From 2002 to 2004, she was the co-coordinator of the Task Force on
Poverty and Development for the United Nations Millennium Project established
by the UN Secretary General.
She also had been actively involved as the Program Coordinator in the
Trade Forum of the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC), a private
networking organization comprising of 23 member economies in the Asia
Pacific region.
She was an external lecturer in International Economics at the University
of Indonesia, Jakarta, as well as an Adjunct Professor at the Australia
Japan Research Centre, the Australian National University, Canberra.
She has wide publications in Indonesian and international journals as
well as in media. In addition, she also serves on the Board of External
Editors of the Asian Journal of Business (University of Michigan) and
Bulletin of Indonesian Economic Studies (Australian National University).
Mari Pangestu is married to Adi Harsono and has two sons, Raymond and
Arya.
