Before joining the Law School faculty in 2004, Professor Charnovitz
was an attorney at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP in Washington,
D.C. He began his career as an analyst at the U.S. Department of Labor,
later served on the staff of two speakers of the U.S. House of Representatives,
and then became policy director of the U.S. Competitiveness Policy Council.
Upon leaving federal service in 1995, he helped to establish the Global
Environment & Trade Study at Yale, and became its first director.
Professor Charnovitz serves on the board of editors of the American
Journal of International Law, the editorial boards of the Journal of
International Economic Law and the Journal of Environment & Development,
and on the international advisory board of the journal Transnational
Associations.
