Founded in 1948, The European Institute at Columbia University is the oldest institution in the United States dedicated to the study of Europe. The Institute serves as the center for European research and curriculum at the University and its primary activities are: leading major research projects; convening lectures, conferences, and other educational events; hosting meetings of European and American scholars; developing curriculum; supporting language training; and serving as a liaison to the news media and general public.
