Marcy Hersh- Chair
Marcy Hersh graduated cum laude from Union College in 2003 with her
degree in Political Science. After graduation she moved to Mejit
Island, a small outer island in the Republic of the Marshall Islands
where she volunteered as an English teacher for 120 elementary school
children. During her service there, Marcy recognized a need for
community health education and developed an innovative, bilingual
adolescent reproductive health curriculum that was implemented with
full support from the local community. She returned to work in
Washington, DC as a business development associate for Futures Group
International, an international public health organization focused on
HIV/AIDS, reproductive health, family planning and health policy.
There she developed skills in proposal writing for public health
programming, marketing, and project management. During the summer of
2007, Marcy worked as a consultant for Liverpool Voluntary Counseling
and Testing, an NGO based in Nairobi, Kenya. There, she developed a
proposal for gender mainstreaming of HIV/AIDS and received a
commitment of funding to begin programming.
At SIPA, Marcy is studying economic and political development with a
focus on gender and development in pursuit of a Masters in
International Affairs.
