Insurgency in Afghanistan - A Bottom Up PerspectiveSpeaker: Maj Jason Brezler, USMC
Time/Location: Oct 12th, 7:30 pm, IAB 1501
Please join us to welcome guest speaker Major Jason Brezler who will be discussing the current US counterinsurgency strategy and its application in Afghanistan. From late 2009 to early 2010, Maj Brezler served as a Civil Affairs Officer in Now Zad, a village in the volatile southern region of the Helmand province of Afghanistan. While there, Maj Brezler worked to plan and execute civil military operations in support of NATO's counterinsurgency strategy in Afghanistan. He helped organize governmental, economic and social initiatives to help bolster the village to prevent the resurgence of Taliban forces and to prevent Al Qaeda operatives from establishing a future base of operations. Maj Brezler has participated in many other counterinsurgency and counterterrorism operations around the world. From 2006-07, he deployed to Fallujah, Iraq while assigned to 1st Battalion, 24th Marines, and from 2001-02 he served as the Marine Corps’ Engineer Detachment Commander in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba during the initial occupation of Camp X-Ray.
