Memorial Conference on the Rwanda Genocide MARCH 26, 2004 The Permanent Mission of the Rwandese Republic to the United Nations and the Permanent Mission of Canada to the United Nations As you may know, the United Nations General Assembly has already designated April 7, 2004, as the International Day of Reflection on the genocide in Rwanda. Many events in Rwanda and throughout the world in the period leading up the Day of Reflection will serve to remind us of the indelible stain left by the events of 1994 on our sense of common humanity. As part of the process of ensuring that the victims of the tragedy of 1994 are appropriately remembered, and that we continue to think profoundly about the continuing implications of the Rwanda tragedy for the international community, on March 26, 2004, at the United Nations, the Foreign Minister of Rwanda, the Hon Charles Murigande, and the Hon. Bill Graham, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, will co-chair a "Memorial Conference on the Rwanda Genocide". The Secretary General of the United nations, His Excellency Kofi Annan, has been invited to inaugurate the event. We are enclosing a summarised program for your interest and attention. The purpose of this letter is to invite you, on behalf of both our governments, to attend, and we hope that we will be able to see you there on March 26, 2004.
