| The
Association of Students of African Descent (ASAD) provides a platform
for students interested in the economic, political and social development
of Africa, the Diaspora and the Caribbean.
It
also aims to enrich the SIPA community through diversity awareness
and celebration of our rich heritage. It provides a community of
support for ASAD students at SIPA and serves as a resource for professional
development.
Membership
is open but not limited to students of African descent. We welcome
all who are interested in ending the scourge of poverty in as permanent
a way as possible and in a just and prosperous world.
Objectives
- Promote
awareness and policy debate on various issues – economic,
social and political development
- Provide
a community of support, linkages for ASAD students at SIPA
- Bridge
the gap between various communities of the African Diaspora, other
students, faculty and staff within the SIPA and Columbia community
through diversity awareness, networking opportunities, empowerment
efforts, cultural events and community outreach
