SIPA Scholarships
Thanks to the generous support of our alumni and friends who have established endowments over the years, we are able to provide a number of scholarships to SIPA students.
Students enrolled at SIPA and applicants to SIPA are automatically considered for the scholarships listed below.

The Lisa Anderson Scholarship Fund
This fund was established in honor of Lisa Anderson’s leadership as Dean of SIPA from 1997 to 2007, with funds from a community of donors. The fund provides fellowship support for students enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs.
Reed and Adrienne Auerbach Fellowship Fund for International Fellows
This fund was established with a gift from Adrienne and Reed Auerbach MIA ’82, IF ‘81. The fund provides fellowship support for a student enrolled in the International Fellows Program, with a preference for a student with demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to students enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs.
Julie and Roger Baumann Fellowship Fund
This fund was established by Julie and Roger Baumann MIA ’85, IF ’84. The fund provides fellowship support for students enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs.
Julius Blocker Scholars Program Fund
This fund was established by the late Julius G. Blocker MIA ’56. The fund fosters an international student exchange program between the School of International and Public Affairs and German university/universities.
Michael and Polly Brandmeyer Fellowship
This fund was established with a gift from Polly and Michael Brandmeyer MIA ’95, IF’95. The fund provides fellowship support for students enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs.
Sharon and James Broadhead Fund for the International Fellows Program
This fund was established with a gift from Sharon and James Broadhead IF ’63. The fund provides fellowship support for the community of scholars in the International Fellows Program.
Judith Brown and Michael Meyers Endowed Fellowship
This fund was established with a gift from Dr. Judith Brown IF ’71, and Michael Meyers. The fund provides fellowship support for the community of scholars in the International Fellows Program.
Robert M. and Buena H. Chilstrom Fellowship Fund
This fund was established with a gift from Buena Chilstrom and the late Robert Chilstrom MIA ’69, CERT ’73. The fund provides fellowship support for students enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs.
Andrew W. and Dorothy Cordier Fellowship Fund
This fund was established with funds provided from various donors, in honor of Dorothy and Andrew Cordier, Dean of SIPA from 1962-72 and President of Columbia University from 1968-70. The fund provides fellowship support for students enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs.
Joanne Toor Cummings Fellowship Fund
This fund was established with a gift from Joanne Toor Cummings MIA ’52. The fund provides fellowship support for students enrolled in the School of International and Public Affairs.
Financial Women’s Association (FWA) Scholarship *
This fund was established by the Financial Women’s Association of New York. The fund provides support to a female student who is pursuing a degree in finance/microfinance with demonstrated leadership and academic ability. Candidates must submit a short statement summarizing their relationship with microfinance—their past experience and future goals.
Annette Fox Fellowship Fund
This fund was established with a gift from the late Dr. Joseph Ha CERT ’71, and named in honor of Dr. Annette Fox; widow of Dr. William T.R. Fox (who founded the Institute of War and Peace Studies at Columbia). This fund provides fellowship support for students enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs with demonstrated financial need.
Global Leaders Fellowship Fund
This fund was established by Paul and Andrea Thurman, and with support from a community of donors. The fund provides fellowship support for students enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs.
The Georgiadis-Moscahlaidis Fellowship Fund
This fund was established with a gift from Alexander Georgiadis MIA ’85, and Evee Moscahlaidis. The fund provides fellowship support for students enrolled in the School of International and Public Affairs.
John N. Hazard Endowed Fellowship Fund
This fund was established with a gift from James Leitner MIA ’77 and Sandra Shahinian Leitner MIA ’76, and named in honor of Dr. John N. Hazard, an academic specialist in Russian Legal History and professor of law. The fund provides fellowship support for first-year students enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs.
Ralph O. Hellmold Fellowship Fund
This fund was established with a gift from Ralph Hellmold MIA ’64, and Susan Eastham. The fund provides fellowship support for students enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs.
INVESTCORP Scholarship Fund
This fund was established with a gift from INVESTCORP. The fund provides fellowship support for students enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs.
The Sara Jacobs Fellowship Fund *
This fund was established with a gift from Sara Jacobs MIA ’12, and her parents, Gary and Jerri Ann Jacobs. The fund provides support for SIPA students who have graduated from Columbia-affiliated undergraduate programs (Columbia College, SEAS, Barnard, and General Studies) with a preference for Columbia College graduates who show demonstrated financial need.
Ranjit Jayanti Fellowship Fund *
This fund was established with a gift from Anuradha Jayanti. The fund provides support for students enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs. Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated an interest in humanitarian issues or women’s issues globally.
Everett Kelsey Memorial Fellowship Fund
This fund was established with funds from various donors, in honor of Everett Kelsey MIA’62. The fund provides fellowship support for students enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs.
Karen J. Klitzman Memorial Fellowship for the Elimination of Terrorism and the Resolution Conflict *
This fund was established by the Klitzman family and with the support of other donors. The fund is named in honor of Karen J. Klitzman MIA ’88, who was killed in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. The fund provides support for students enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs devoted to the study of the elimination of terrorism and the resolution of conflict.
Robert I. Kopech Fellowship Fund *
This fund was established with a gift from Robert Kopech MIA ’77. The fund provides support for students who are pursuing concurrent degrees at the School of International and Public Affairs and the Columbia University Graduate School of Business.
Joseph Kraft Fellowship Fund
This fund was established by the late Gilman Kraft, in memory of his brother Joseph Kraft, the distinguished journalist and widely syndicated Washington columnist. The fund provides fellowship support for students enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs.
Mr. and Mrs. Leiser Krieger Scholarship Fund
This fund was established with a gift from the late Charles Krieger MIA ’50, in honor of his parents. The fund provides fellowship support for students enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs.
Kuznetsov Fellowship Fund for Graduate Studies
This fund was established with a gift from Vladimir Kuznetsov MIA ’91, IF ‘90. The fund provides fellowship support for students enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs.
The Leitner Family Fellowship Fund
This fund was established with a gift from the Leitner family. The fund provides fellowship support for students enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs.
The Robert Legvold Fellowship Fund for Graduate Studies *
This fund provides fellowship support for students who, like Professor Legvold, seek a deep understanding of the countries of the former Soviet Union and the Communist regimes of that era and who strive to improve the quality of policymaking between those countries and the United States. Preference is for students who are: 1) Long term residents of the U.S.; or 2) Residents of countries that were part of the former Soviet Union; or 3) Residents of the former communist regimes that were members of the Warsaw Treaty Organization (WTO) or the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance (COMECON). It is also preferred that recipients plan to focus their studies on the former Soviet Union, former Warsaw Pact, or former COMECON countries.
The Jorge Paulo Lemann Fund *
This fund was established by Brazilian entrepreneur Jorge Paulo Lemann. The fund provides fellowship support for students who are: 1) Enrolled in a dual-degree program with School of International and Public Affairs and the Fucacao Getulio Vargas (FGV) or other Brazilian institutions; 2) Students who live or have lived in Brazil; 3) Students engaged in Brazil-related internships and workshops; or 4) Other Columbia graduate students engaged in research travel to Brazil. Students should have a demonstrated interest in making a difference in Brazil after graduation.
Dasturdaza Dr. Jal Pavry Memorial Award in International Peace and Understanding *
This fund was established with a gift from The Most Honorable Bapsy Marchioness of Winchester MA ‘25 in memory of her brother, Dr. Jal Pavry. The fund provides support for students enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs. The candidates must submit a paper on the topic of international peace and understanding.
The Charles and Marie Lippey Fellowship in International Finance
This fund was established with a gift from Brian C. Lippey MIA’78, and Jackie Macleod, in honor of Brian’s parents. The fund provides fellowship support for students enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs with a preference for student concentrating in international finance and business.
The David Lipschultz Fellowship Fund
This fund was established with a gift from Juliana Lipschultz and her family, in memory of her husband David Lipschultz MIA ‘97. The fund provides fellowship support for students enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs with a preference for students of Latino heritage.
Walter N. Maguire Fellowship Fund
This fund was established with a gift from the late Helen Maguire Muller. The fund provides fellowship support for students enrolled in the School of International and Public Affairs with a preference for students from Africa, Latin America, or Asia.
The Marber Family Fellowship Fund
This fund was established with a gift from Peter Marber MIA ’87. The fund provides fellowship support for students enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs with a preference for a female student committed to an international business career.
The Most Honorable Bapsy Marchioness of Winchester Award in Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms *
This fund was established with a gift from The Most Honorable Bapsy Marchioness of Winchester MA ‘25. The fund provides support for students enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs. The candidates must submit a paper on the topic of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.
The Mata Family Fellowship
This fund was established with a gift from Maria-Teresa Vivas de Mata MIA ’03, IF ’03, and Andres Mata Osorio. The fund provides fellowship support for students enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs, with a strong preference for students in the International Fellows Program.
Mosse-Noble Fellowship Fund
This fund was established with a gift from the late Dr. Dorothy Noble. The fund provides fellowship support for students enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs.
David Ottaway Fellowship Fund
This fund was established with a gift from David Ottaway IF ‘63. The fund provides fellowship support for students enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs with demonstrated financial need.
Ottaway International Fellows Program Fellowship Fund
This fund was established with a gift from David Ottaway IF ‘63. The fund provides fellowship support for students enrolled in the International Fellows Program.
Dr. Edwin Price Fellowship Fund
The fund provides fellowship support for students enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs, with a preference for an international student.
Dr. Robert Randle Endowed Fund for International Fellows Program
This fund was established with a gift from Malcolm Stewart MIA ’79, and named in honor of Dr. Robert Randle, former Associate Dean of SIPA and Director of the International Fellows Program. The fund provides support to the community of students in the International Fellows program.
Julie Rasmussen Fellowship Fund *
This fund was established with a gift of Julie Rasmussen MIA ’90, IF ‘90. The fund provides support for students enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs, with a preference for students who are American citizens whose primary concentration is Russian Studies, with demonstrated financial need.
Sainsbury Fund for Africa
This fund was established with a gift from Lord David John Sainsbury. The fund provides fellowship support for residents of Africa or for students interested in studying Africa.
Jeffrey L. Schmidt Fellowship Fund
This fund was established with a gift from Jeffrey Schmidt MIA ’79, IF ‘78, in honor of his professor Ainslie T. Embree, Professor of History Emeritus at Columbia University and former Dean of SIPA .The fund provides fellowship support for students enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs.
Romita Shetty and Nasser Ahmad Fellowship Fund *
This fund was established with a gift from Romita Shetty MIA ’89, and Nasser Ahmad. The fund provides fellowship support to PhD or master’s students enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs. Preference will be given to students who resided in India or Pakistan and/or who are interested in sustainable development.
Rachel L. Spear Fellowship in International Affairs *
This fund was established with a gift from the late Rachel Spear. The fund provides support for students who are planning to pursue careers in diplomatic service, who have demonstrated ability in one or more foreign languages, and who have knowledge of political science and economy. Preference will be given to graduates of Middlebury College.
Joan Edelman Spero Fellowship Fund
This fund was established with a gift from Joan Spero MIA ‘68. The fund provides fellowship support for students enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs.
C. V. Starr Foundation Scholarship Fund
This fund was established with a gift from the Starr Foundation. The fund provides fellowship support for students enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs and is based upon merit and need.
Alice Stetten Fellowship Fund
This fund was established by a gift from the late Alice Stetten, a great friend of Dean Cordiers. The fund provides fellowship support for students enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs.
Anna Lord Strauss Fellowship Fund
This fund was established with a gift from the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry J. Mali to commemorate the life of Mrs. Mali’s sister, Anna Lord Strauss. The fund provides fellowship support to women enrolled at the School of International and Public Affairs, who demonstrate citizen concern, leadership potential, as well as excellence in academic performance.
Ipeknur and Shwan Taha Fellowship *
This fund was established with a gift from Ipeknur Cem Taha MIA ’93, and Schwan Ibrahim Taha. The fund provides fellowship support for students with demonstrated financial need with preference for the following: 1) Students who are residents of Iraq/Turkey; 2) Students who are residents of countries other than the U.S. and who have declared a concentration or expressed a serious interest in the Middle East as indicated by work experience, language training, course work; and, 3) Students who are residents of countries other than the U.S.
