By providing information about potential summer internships, Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs has not made any determination or recommendation whether a particular country, city or other destination is dangerous or unsafe for our students to travel to and/or work. While an approved summer internship is required, the School does not require students to accept internships in locations that might put the student in harm's way. Columbia University does not operate or endorse any of the internships undertaken by SIPA students, and has no control over the terms and conditions thereof. Therefore, the University accepts no responsibility for students engaged in internships. Please check the "Yes" box to confirm that you have read and understand 1) this disclaimer; 2) the U.S. Department of State's Public Announcements and Travel Warnings (http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/tw/tw_1764.html), 3) the U.S. Department of State's Background Notes on the country in which the internship is located (http://www.state.gov/r/pa/ei/bgn); and 4) the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's information on immunizations and other precautions necessary for travel in the internship location (http://www.cdc.gov).
Please check the "Yes" box to confirm that you understand OCS will be verifying internship placements during the summer and that you are aware that you will be held fully responsible for reimbursing SIPA for any violation of the School Disclaimer and Eligibility Agreements or if the grant is used for anything other than for the internship specified in this application.
Disbursement Instructions
We anticipate that grants will be disbursed in May. The award is paid as a stipend with applicable taxes.
Once you are awarded a grant, you will see it in your Columbia account through Student Services Online (SSOL). If you have set up direct deposit with Columbia University, you can request a refund through SSOL and the funds will be deposited into your personal account. If you do not have direct deposit, the refund will be sent to you via check. Please note that if you have any outstanding balance with Columbia University, the travel grant will be applied to your balance.
If you have direct deposit already set up and want a paper check, you must go to Student Financial Services to cancel your direct deposit and request a refund. Please note that this will cancel the process for all Columbia payments to your account. You will have to complete another direct deposit form to reactivate the process for the fall semester. Checks will not be available for pick up. They will be mailed to the current address that is on file with Columbia. Please note that this may pose a problem if you are not at that residence for the summer so this method is not recommended.
Please note: Your application will not be complete until you submit the following support documents to OCS:
