Hello!
I've been on board for about a month, and it's been great to hear from and meet so many enthusiastic alumni. I've been busy getting together with faculty and staff, learning the SIPA "speak," and meeting with students (also known as "alumni in training").
As I get acclimated to my new role, I would appreciate your input about what you would like to see more of from SIPA in terms of alumni activities and engagement. I can always be reached through e-mail at scott.pesner@sipa.columbia.edu. In addition, I hope you stay connected with us through the SIPA Facebook page, our LinkedIn group, and our just-launched Twitter account, @SIPA_Alumni.
I have been working closely with the SIPA Alumni Council, headed by Roger Baumann, IF '84, MIA '85. At their executive committee meeting this past September, chairs of each of the Council's subcommittees were appointed: Aaron Singer, MIA '04 (Career and Mentoring); Shamsudeen Mustafa, MPA '06 (Events); Anuj Shah, MIA '05 (Communications and Outreach); and Allison Cooke Kellogg, IF '72, MIA '73 (Nominations). The full board of the Alumni Council will meet in December, and I will update you through this newsletter about their work. In addition, I will be working with alumni from around the globe to bring SIPA to your area. In October, our EMPA alumni had a gathering in Manhattan following the Columbia Homecoming football game, while our D.C. alumni are planning an Alumni Happy Hour this month. Importantly, please mark your calendars for two special events at the end of April: our Global Leadership Awards Dinner on Thursday evening, April 26th (see below for information about our honorees) and our annual Alumni Day, to take place at the Columbia Faculty House, on Saturday, April 28th.
Again, I would enjoy hearing from you and hope to meet many of you personally.
Scott Pesner
Director of Alumni Affairs
