Record Turnout for Alumni Day; Alumni Return for Reunion, PEPM 20th Anniversary
More than 200 alumni and SIPA faculty members took part in SIPA's annual Alumni Day on Saturday, April 28. Panel discussions focused on the November election, the global human rights crisis, social media and protest, and energy and climate change policy. Luncheon keynote speaker Bob Kopech MIA '77 of the World Bank created a lively Q&A on global financial policies.
In addition, for the first time, SIPA held a reunion reception, for the 5th and 10th year reunion classes, attracting more than 75 people on Saturday evening.
SIPA's Program in Economic Policy Management celebrated its 20th anniversary in conjunction with this year's Alumni Day. Distinguished faculty participated in a pair of panels — one looking back, the second forward.

Under Secretary of State Sonenshine Tells Graduates to Live a "Life of Value"
More than 700 SIPA students graduated on Thursday, May 17, in front of more than 4,000 family members and guests. Speaker Tara Sonenshine, under secretary of state for public diplomacy and public affairs, told the graduates to live a life of value, not one based on the pursuit of fame.

David Ottaway Receives Alumni Medal
David B. Ottaway IF '63 was one of ten recipients of the Columbia Alumni Medal, presented prior to Columbia Commencement on Wednesday, May 16. The medalists are recognized for building Columbia's community—whether regionally, online, in specific schools, or in cross-campus initiatives.

Pardi Mahdavi MIA '02 was one of seven 2012 Wig Distinguished Professor Award for Excellence in Teaching recipients at Pomona College. The award is bestowed on Pomona faculty and recognizes exceptional teaching, concern for students, and service to the college.
