Visiting SIPA

Another important part of learning about SIPA for many prospective students is visiting the school, visiting a class, or talking to a SIPA representative at an admissions forum.

Office Hours

The Admissions Office is located in the International Affairs Building, Room 408 on Columbia University’s Morningside Heights Campus.

Prospective students are welcome to drop by to speak with an admissions counselor from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Visitor Information

The Columbia campus on Morningside Heights is located at Broadway and 116th Street in Manhattan. The School of International and Public Affairs is located at 420 West 118th Street between Amsterdam Avenue and Morningside Drive. Be aware that when you enter the building, "street level" is considered the fourth floor.

Information Sessions at SIPA

Individual interviews are not part of the SIPA admissions process, but you are welcome, and encouraged, to schedule your visit to SIPA in conjunction with an information session. At these sessions you will have the opportunity to learn more about SIPA, the curriculum and the admissions process.  You will also have an opportunity to ask individual questions and address your particular concerns as an applicant.

MIA and MPA

Information sessions for the MIA and MPA programs are offered most Fridays at 12:00 noon.  We will also hold a monthly Monday evening session at 6:00 p.m..  These sessions do not cover any of the other SIPA programs, just the MIA and MPA two-year, full-time programs.

Please call or email the Admissions Office ahead of time to inquire about session availability and to make a reservation. As space in the sessions is limited, we recommend contacting us at least two weeks in advance to reserve a place.

To view the complete schedule with specific dates and times, and to register to attend an information session, please visit the Recruiting Schedule page.

Class Visits

While you are in New York and on-campus at Columbia for an information session, you may also want to visit a class. You can choose a class from the class schedule. You may also want to contact a SIPA student in your field through the Admissions Office to ask them to recommend classes that may be of interest to you (sipa_admission@columbia.edu).

Admissions Forums Away From SIPA

Each fall SIPA representatives travel around the United States and abroad to meet with prospective students. You can view this year's recruiting schedule on the Recruiting Schedule page.
