Reapplication Instruction

Application materials from all programs are kept on file for TWO years, after which they are destroyed. If you have been denied admission, you are required to wait 1 year until re-application. You are only permitted to re-apply two times after your initial application. Re-applications are subject to the same deadlines, fees, and regulations as normal applications.

Re-applicants are Required to Submit the Following Items:

1. First, please send an email to sipa_admission@columbia.edu stating your interest in reapplying. In the email, please state when you originally applied and what program you applied to. 
2. A new online application form and application fee. (You will not be able to log into your old account and “renew” your old application.)
3. Transcripts of any college or university level work undertaken since your last application.
4. An updated C.V./Résumé.  This may be uploaded through the online application site.
5. Re-applications are highly encouraged to submit a new personal statement.  This may be uploaded through the online application site.  
6. Re-applicants who do not speak English as a first language are encouraged to review our TOEFL standards to determine if retaking the TOEFL could increase the strength of their application.

Please note: Application files are maintained for two (2) years. After two years all files are discarded.

If you are preparing to re-apply, you may want to review the general feedback we provide re-applicants. Due to the high volume of applications, we are unable to offer individual feedback letters or appointments.
