Intern Position, Bank Management Training and Internship Program, New York
Financial Services Volunteer Corps (FSVC) is a private, not-for-profit international development organization that channels volunteer technical expertise from the U.S. financial services community into countries making the transition to market economies in Central and Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union and Asia.
FSVC seeks an Intern to work with the New York based Russia Team on the organization and implementation of its annual Banker training program, which it has run successfully for the past three years. The Intern will assist in all aspects of developing the program structure, compiling the materials for handouts, recruiting host banks, logistical arrangements, implementation of the program and program closeout.
Successful candidates for the position will have a B.A. degree and experience in one or more of the following: finance, economic development, commercial banking or other related fields. Proficiency in Russian is desirable, but not essential. The working environment is intense, involving a large number of tasks that require close and constant attention. Knowledge of Microsoft programs, attention to detail and strong interpersonal, telephone and writing skills are prerequisites for consideration.
Applicants should be available to start immediately and work 20 hours per week until April, then full time during the months of May and June. Pay would be hourly.

MEC International Business Consultants

MEC is a central London-based business development consultancy with a primary focus on the Middle East. The organization comprises people with backgrounds in diplomacy, finance and commerce.
At any one time MEC has 2-3 interns in its offices to support various projects involving its international network. Mostly these are European but they have had US interns in the past.
Specific projects that fit within the areas of specialization of SIPA students include:
- International Security Policy – MEC produces a regular analytical newsletter on this topic and holds a number of briefings to support studies.
- Finance and Business – MEC is launching a dialogue commencing with a meeting in London on April 20 to be followed through with discussions in Washington on problems for the financial sector arising from the US Patriot Act.
- Energy Management – MEC is planning a series of three in-depth studies and workshops on scope for greater public-private cooperation with regard to pipelines, ports and shipping building on the NATO-backed Windsor Energy Group workshops at Windsor Castle.
- Media – MEC runs an active program on how the Arab media responds to various issues under an organization called the Arab International Media Forum. The next step is a media safety gathering at the UN’s European media center in Brussels to take forward discussions with the media, international organizations and interested governments.
MEC would be pleased to hear from SIPA students who have interests in this area and who may wish to contribute either as interns or in providing background papers to be included as part of the relevant program.
