  • 2008 STATE DEPARTMENT CRITICAL LANGUAGE SCHOLARSHIPS FOR INTENSIVE SUMMER INSTITUTES

    The U.S. Department OF State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and The Council of American Overseas Research Centers have recently announced the availability of scholarships for intensive overseas study in Arabic, Bangla/Bengali, Persian, Turkish, and Urdu for Summer 2008. This scholarship will provide funding for U.S. citizens, including undergraduates, Master’s and Ph.D. students, and recent graduates (up to two years after the date of graduation) to participate in beginning, intermediate and/or advanced level summer language programs at American Overseas Research Centers and affiliated partners. Programs range from 7 weeks to 11 weeks, beginning in early to mid-June and the application deadline is January 25, 2008. Please visit the following link for full details: www.CLScholarship.org

  • Institute of Turkish Studies Offers grants to graduate students, faculty members, post-doctoral and independent scholars, academic departments, and university libraries to pursue academic interests and expand the field of Turkish Studies.

  • American Institute for Iranian Studies
    Offers fellowships for research in Iran to scholars of varying levels of expertise.

  • American Institute for Maghrebi Studies
    Offers a number of fellowships for Maghrebi scholars, as well as grants for scholars and graduate students conducting research in North Africa.

  • The American Institute for Yemeni Studies (AIYS)
    AIYS Fellowship for Study and Research in Yemen
    • Two separate competitions for fellowship programs of in-country residence and research in Yemen, one for U.S. citizens and one for citizens of the Republic of Yemen

  • Academy for Educational Development/NSEP
    David L. Boren Graduate Fellowships
    • Unique opportunity to expand your understanding of countries and languages critical to U.S. national security. NSEP makes it possible for 85-90 graduate students to pursue the study of languages and cultures annually.

  • US Dept of State and the Council of American Overseas Research Centers
    • As part of the National Security Language Initiative (NSLI), a U.S. government interagency effort to expand dramatically the number of Americans studying and mastering critical need foreign languages, the Department of State Critical Language Scholarships will provide funding for U.S. citizen undergraduate, master's and Ph.D. students to participate in beginning, intermediate and advanced level summer language programs

  • American Research Institute in Turkey (ARIT)
    Fellowships for Intensive Advanced Turkish Language Study in Istanbul
    • ARIT offers full travel and fellowships for ten advanced students and scholars for participation in a summer program (June 21 – August 10, 2006) in Turkish language at Bogaziçi University in Istanbul

  • American Research Institute in Turkey (ARIT)
    Mellon Research Fellowships for Central and Eastern European Post-Doctoral Scholars in Turkey 2006-2005
    • Scholars from Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, holding a PhD, may apply for fellowships to engage in individual research projects in any field in the humanities and allied social sciences involving Turkey

  • American Research Institute in Turkey (ARIT)
    The American Research Institute in Turkey will offer ARIT fellowships for research in Turkey for the academic year 2007-2008 at its branch centers in Istanbul and Ankara. Scholars and advanced graduate students engaged in research on ancient, medieval, or modern times in Turkey, in any field of the humanities and social sciences, are eligible.

  • International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX)
    John J. and Nancy Lee Roberts Fellowship Program
    • Supports cutting-edge research on primary, secondary, and/or higher education in the Middle East and North Africa region.
    • The 2006 Roberts Fellowship program will provide a single grant for up to 12 months in length. IREX encourages collaborative research programs involving international colleagues.
    • Eligible Research Fields: Primary, Secondary, and/or Higher Education
    • Eligible Countries of Research Focus: Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia (Applications will also be considered on Afghanistan and Pakistan)
    • Application deadline is April 1, 2006
    • All applicants will be notified of their status in June 2006. The fellowship may begin as early as July 2006

  • The American Academic Research Institute for Research in Iraq (AARIIT)
    • Offers two competitions for fellowship programs, one for citizens of Iraq, and one for US citizens.
    • Proposals are invited from individual post-doctoral and advanced pre-doctoral researchers for fellowships to conduct research related to Iraq in any field of the humanities or social sciences. Requests should not exceed $4,000.

  • The Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies
    • Visiting Fellowships are awarded annually to enable scholars or writers with academic interests in the Islamic world to spend an extended period of independent study and research at Oxford.
    • From time to time, the Centre advertises Research Fellowships. They are awarded in support of those who wish to pursue independent full-time study and research at Oxford or those who have been accepted to read for a research degree at Oxford University.
    • The King Faisal Foundation Award will enable a British citizen to undertake research at postdoctoral or equivalent level at an academic institution in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

  • The Anna Sobol Levy Foundation
    • Provides fellowships of $10,000 per year for U.S. citizens who are college graduates to study at the prestigious Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
    • Recipients of ASL fellowships participate in special activities including briefings and visits to Israeli military bases. Fellows may select from a wide variety of courses and are entitled to a private tutorial with a Hebrew University faculty member.
