Ahiteme Houndonougbo, PEPM 2009

Back to Students, Faculty and Alumni Interviews and Biographies

Ahiteme Houndonougbo is a graduate of the PEPM Class of 2009. He is currently enrolled in a PhD program in Economics at the University in Knoxville where he is a part-time Research Assistant for the Department of Economics.

What have you done since graduating from PEPM?

I enrolled in the PhD program in Economics at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville right after graduating from PEPM in 2009.  I'm currently in my second year.  I work part-time for the Department of Economics as Research Assistant.  I still have two to 3 years to go in the program.  In terms of personal life, my wife Foumike gave birth to our little daughter Ashley this summer (July 7).

What did you like most about PEPM?

I really enjoyed the PEPM program as it was such a great transition for me from my previous job as bank officer to studying development.  I found the program well related to the real world rather than being just theoretical.  I think that's a big plus for anyone who's mostly interested in a non-academic career.

What are some of your long term career goals?

Personally, I'm seeking a career in international development with institutions like the World Bank or the African Development Bank.  I loved the summer internship at the World Bank as part of the PEPM program.  It gave me the opportunity to take what I've learnt in class to the field and to see for myself if that was really what I want to do as a career.  Last summer I was busy with the comprehensive qualifying exams so I couldn't do it again.  But in the coming summer I will definitely do another World Bank internship if I have the opportunity
