Richard Greenberg graduated in 2004 and is now the Director of Strategic Communications and Equal Justice Fellow at the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice.
What did you do prior to joining SIPA?
“I held a variety of positions including being a legal aide at an immigration office, a producer for documentary and nonprofit fundraising videos, a program director for an after-school mentoring program, and a did development work for a few other organizations.”
What are you doing now?
“I am the Director of Strategic Communications & Equal Justice Fellow at the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice in Newark, NJ. We are a 'think and do tank,' meaning that we conduct public policy research as well as engage in hands-on advocacy to advance policy reform. Most recently, the Institute has focused on prisoner reentry, affordable housing, and sentencing reform issues.”
How would you describe your experience at SIPA?
“I greatly enjoyed my time at SIPA. The experience fundamentally strengthened both my perspective on public service as well as my capacity to be a public servant. Indeed, the knowledge and relationships I gained during my two years at SIPA have been the foundation of my career since graduation (both the faculty and my classmates were a treasure rich with this knowledge and relationships).”
What is your estimation of SIPA’s reputation in academic and professional settings?
“SIPA has a very strong reputation in academic and professional settings. My experience has been that both academics and professionals hold SIPA in high regard. The SIPA name opens doors and provides immediate credibility.”
What is the most valuable thing you took away from your time at SIPA?
“Knowledge and relationships.”
