Podcasting Instructions for Multimedia Events at SIPA

What is RSS?
“RSS," stands for rich site summary or really simple syndication, a new technology that delivers customized web content to users at their desktop and on mobile devices. You can get the latest headlines the moment they are published, without having to visit the Web sites in question. You can subscribe to the sites you are interested in and cancel them at any time.

How do I set it up on my computer?
You can view updated content from a RSS feed in two ways. First, you can use an RSS news reader, such as FeedDemon for Windows and NewsFire, NetNewsWire on Mac OS X.  You can find a list of other RSS readers at Google, NewsGator or My Yahoo! The second method is to create a "live bookmark" in your browser by clicking on the RSS icon .

How do I subscribe to a RSS Feed?
Sites generally identify the content with a button marked "RSS" or "XML" . Clicking on the button generally opens a file which includes a description of the podcast and its URL. Subscribing means that you need to copy and paste the URL in the browser window of the reader. You can also specify the frequency with which the content should be updated for any RSS feed.
