9/11: Ten Years Later
Ten years after the terrorist attacks, SIPA and the Arnold A. Saltzman Institute for War and Peace Studies will commemorate 9/11 and assess the situation in the United States. The symposium on Friday, September 9 will feature debate and discussion among Columbia University faculty, experts, and affiliates.

SIPA's Global Mayors Forum welcomes Sameer Sharma of Hyderabad, India, on Wednesday, September 14. Known as the City of Pearls, Hyderabad is the capital of Andhra Pradesh, India. It is the sixth largest city in India and the second largest metropolitan area.
Climate Change and Civil War
El Niño could lead to civil war, according to research by two students from SIPA’s PhD program in sustainable development. Solomon Hsiang and Kyle Meng are getting international attention for their work, published in the journal Nature. It links changes in the climate cycle to increases in warfare.
