The CEO of the African Union’s development agency NEPAD – the New Partnership for Africa's Development – visited SIPA last week. Dr. Ibrahim Assane Mayaki addressed the founding and progress of NEPAD over the past decade, noting improvements they have made, criticism they have faced, and the challenges ahead.
“We must recognize Africa has made progress, with some limitations.”

Dan Viederman (MIA ‘92) was named 2011 Social Entrepreneur of the Year by the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship. Viederman is CEO of Verité, a global NGO which works with companies, suppliers, and governments worldwide to create and maintain fair labor conditions.
“Our role is to push globalization toward helping the most vulnerable people. Companies come to us because of some sort of crisis or because they decide there is a better way to do business.”

Today, the International Fellows Program is a two-semester seminar open to students of all graduate degree programs at Columbia University.
